There are hundreds of carers in Dumbarton, Clydebank and Vale of Leven. Carers do a wonderful job. They care for relatives or friends at home often at great personal, emotional and financial cost. They deserve to be recognised for their outstanding commitment to care in the community and recognised as key partners in the provision of care, and this is now happening.

John McFall has been at the forefront of highlighting the contribution made by carers in West Dunbartonshire and the need to provide people who fulfil this important role with appropriate support.

Last June John McFall teamed up with charity ambassador and TV and film actress, Pam Ferris (pictured opposite) to launch the fourteenth annual "Carer's Week". Read More

John McFall signed up to a parliamentary motion EDM 1369 to publicises the fact that large numbers of carers are not known to statutory agencies, and their health needs are often overlooked. View EDM

In 2007, a new Carer's Centre was opened in Dumbarton, which now provides direct support to 350 carers each year. John McFall attended the official opening of the new centre and has worked locally to raise awareness of the support available for carers in West Dunbartonshire, many of whom are unaware of the services available. John McFall attended "Carers' Rights Day" in Dumbarton in December, the theme of which was "Making the Most of Your Money", to allow local carers to access information and advice regarding the benefits they are entitled to. Mr McFall said, "The new assessment is designed to look at what people can do rather than what they can’t – and will ensure that those who can work are given the help and support they need to get back to work.” Read More

John McFall recently attended a Remembrance Day event for 2 million people worldwide that have been killed, disabled, or severely injured in the workplace. This is an important issue for Mr McFall, whose West Dunbartonshire constituency has many people that have suffered at work in the ship building or engineering industries in particular. Read More

June 8th -14th this year was Carers Week 2009, a yearly event to raise awareness of the important work of the 2 million carers in this country. John has campaigned on behalf of carers for years now, and is pleased that the British public have acknowledged their work in recent polls. Read More
